    Help with British medal/badge???

    Hi

Recently came across this item in a second hand shop and bought it for £3.00.
I have no idea what it is and was hoping for some help. It has no means of being attached to anything as far as I can see. The back is quite plain but does show some signs of engraving which makes me think it was made with the intention of both sides being seen.It is maker marked to the rear with "VAUGHTON BIRM".
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Andy

Hi Andy, I have not seen this badge before but I would guess that it was made as a pocket watch fob?

      Cheers, Ade.

        Thanks Ade

Not really sure what a watch fob looks like. If this is what it is for, would they have engraved the rear?
        Thanks
        Andy

Hi Andy, pocket watch fobs come in all shapes and sizes and designs. The were worn as decoration on the watch chain. Many are indeed engraved on the reverse with names, dates, initials, etc.

As I said before this is my best guess on what it could be.

          Cheers, Ade.

              Hello ANDY ,
not sure but just to confuse you even more , i was thinking this may one of those tribute medals handed out by towns , parishes etc at the end of the great war , in the past i have seen them given to men from a particular area ( covering many units ) rather than an individual batt: my local town Brighouse did one ,also saw one given out by a west yorkshire wool mill owner to any of his former workers who served , i would guess that your badge may be one of these and as ADE states designed to be worn proudly on a fob in your civi clothes ??? this is really just a total guess so i had better shut up !!! either way i think it was 3 quid well spent ,Michael.
