    Artists Rifles cap and coat

    Hello,

Here are some pictures of the Artist's cap and coat which started off in the thread about plastic buttons.

Since taking the pictures I noticed the full name of the original owner which is sewn in to the lining near the armpit. It's 6968006 Raymond Savage.

It'll be fantastic if anyone can tell me anything that Steve and Ade haven't already mentioned. Both the hat and coat will be going up for sale in the near future though.

    Cheers

    Tony

The Artists Rifles were until 1908 part of the Rifle Brigade, to which they returned in 1937. In 1947 they became part of the Army Air Corps as 21st Battalion, Special Air Service Regiment (Artists Rifles) (TA).

I think you may find that during WW1 they were an Officer Training Corps.

Anyway as part of the Rifle Brigade they would have worn BLACK HORN buttons as did the King's Royal Rifle Corps.
