Help requested with leather para chinstraps

    Hi guys,
At least some of us were not entirely sure about the leather chinstraps on Jeroen's helmet.
I thought they seemed ok,they are nothing like the reproduction straps that I know of. Unfortunately I don't have such helmet myself to compare.
I only have pictures of leather straps and they are not very detailed so what I would really appreciate is if you could send me pictures or measurements from genuine leather straps: close ups from chin cup, fixings, stitching, rivets, sizes, widths, lenghts etc etc...
    Please e-mail pictures to: L_Being@gmx.net
    Thanks, Luc

    Hello Luc,

I'll send you some pictures of mine tomorrow. To be honest, I didn't really like those on Jeroen's helmet and the rivets didn't look good to me.

    All the best, from Jack.

      Thanks Jack!

Yeah, the rivets were a bit different.
Oh, and I won't put any of your pictures on my website without your prior consent!
      Cheers, Luc

        Hello Luc,

Don't worry about the pictures now

My name is on the front page so all is great

        Thanks, from Jack.

I'm thinking of changing that, I'm constantly working on a new release and the list of names is growing so what I will do is give credit per picture.

Back to the subject of chinstraps: if you look at the strap on the left side you will see 3 rivets. Sometimes there are 2 at the top and one below that (a triangle pointing down) and sometimes it is the other way around.
Does anyone have any idea if this is a good way to tell genuine from repro; or is it just maker's variations?
          Cheers, Luc

Hi Luc, I have been thinking about your request. This is a thorny issue and one that we have discussed before in many of the German sections. By posting good detailed info of the kind you need, we are in a great danger of helping the fakers improve their products.

My helmet chinstrap is a stitched type so I cannot help re the rivets.

            Cheers, Ade.

              Good point Ade,

However I had no intentions to post pictures here; I would just welcome pictures via e-mail and store them on my pc. That is not going to help fakers!

              Cheers, Luc

                  Hi Luc,

There are a couple of reasonable photos of a seacond pattern on my site if you want to copy them. www.axisandallied.com they give fair detail of the harness. I will also try to dig the original larger files out of my archive for you.

                  Yours, Guy.

                      No Worries Mate

Here's a reasonable look at the rivets. Will send you the full size files in the next couple of days.

                        Excellent close up Guy, thanks.

They look like copper, not brass am I right?

                          Hi Luc,

Yes they are copper. They are the same sort of rivets found on 08 pattern equipment, certain bayonet frogs, binocular cases etc.

                          Yours, Guy.
