    Para helmet

    Hay,

I`m new at this forum, and i`m from Holland! Oh don`t notice my badly English .
I have a question, do you think this is a real fibre rim helmet, the chin ups look oke but the liner looks very new, it has the BMB 1942 stamp but not with a sice in it. The steel pot is very raw, and is painted. Who of the specialists can help me?

Please tell me of you need better pictures

    Jeroen

    Hello there,

    Welcome to the forum

I'll give you my opinion on this. I saw this one on eBay when it was listed and I did not like it at all. I think the fibre rim is completely fake because it is much thicker than the originals and it just does not look right on that helmet. The actual steel helmet could be ok but I reckon the holes might have been drilled in the back so it would fit the leather chin strap. The leather chin strap itself looks original but I'm not sure. The liner is ok but these are common.

I'm sorry about being the bearer of bad news. This helmet has been discussed before I think. In my opinion, it is a complete "put together" having been contructed from part original, part fake parts The price was also stupid I thought, sorry!

    Thanks, from Jack.

I also saw this on ebay and felt the same as Jack. The thing that jumped out for me when I saw it first was the liner. I think its wrong for this type of helmet.

        Here here,

I agree with Jack and Des on this one. The photos are not really clear enough to get a very good overall impression but that liner really does look dodgy. The rubber appears to be modern as opposed to the original sorbo. The harness doesn't look too bad from the pics but there is something about it I can't define that troubles me. I have on my site at the moment a very nice but very worn 2'nd pattern; the liner and rubber are dessicated yet the harness whilst worn is in pretty good condition. Considering the amount of wear to the chin strap I find it strange that the liner band is mint in this example.

The photos are not clear or close enough for me to comment on the shell with any accuracy, it may be an original relic which has been rebuilt or it may be a complete knock up. I see Jacks point about the fibre rim, it is rather thick. However the rim roll looks promising from this distance. Could we see closer pictures of that and the harness etc please?

Sorry not to be of more help.

        Yours, Guy.

ps are they original 42 jacket and 43? trousers on the dummy behind?

Hi Jeroen, welcome to the forum!

This helmet has several problems which some of the members have already pointed out; suspect liner with fake stamp to the leather, oversized fibre band, and suspect chinstrap. All of the these are fake in my opinion. The helmet shell might be original but I would need a better photo of the lip to tell.

                  Cheers, Ade.

                    Hi Jeroen,

A big welcome to the forum!
Sorry, but I have to agree with the above comments! Do I understand you properly that there is no size stamped on the liner?
I was amazed by the price you paid for it.
If I'm not mistaken you won the Glider Pilots battle dress last week, I would really like to see some close ups from those!

Guys, am I right that the fibre rim is supposed to be smooth, not the sandy texure of the shell?

                    Cheers, Luc

Hi Luc, yes you are correct the fibre rim should be smooth and not textured.

                      Cheers, Ade.

                        Hello again,

I'm sorry you wasted your hard earned money on this item and if I were you I'd send it back to the seller, sturmreg. Afterall, he does descibe it as original. Do you think you'll be able to get your money back?

I saw you were also the winner of BD blouse, as Luc mentioned. In my opinion, all the badges are fake apart from maybe the sergeant stripes. The blouse itself was orginal. I don't know about the beret but I'd like to see some more pictures as Luc said. I would have given this a miss for sure. If you look it had been sold before then relisted? Perhaps it already had been returned?

                        Many thanks, from Jack.

                          Thanks Ade!

So what do we have here? Not a shell from Pegasus Militaria, those have a fibre rim only on the outside of the shell.
And that aluminium band around the liner looks like it's been painted.

Jeroen, could you please measure the distance from the bottom of the shell to the middle of the fixing bolts? Oftewel de afstand vanaf de onderrand tot het midden van de bevestigingschroeven.
                          Cheers, Luc

                              Hi Jack, happy birthday!

Why are you on the internet, are the pups closed?

I agree on the blouse, possibly PM Pegasus patches and airborne strips. Titles are fluffy at the edges, badges are not sewn on in the proper place. I contacted the seller for better pictures; he told me that that was too technical for him and that I should give him a call. A good reason not to place a bid; or as someone put it: don't assume anything!
I saw you bought some stuff from seller CUNNARD, I don't suppose you want our opnions on his items.

Jeroen, don't be disappointed; it's only opinions that we give.
But most of all I think a vast knowledge of fakes and repros is essential for collector's. Sometimes you get burned and learn the hard way.
                              Cheers, Luc
