    RAF insignia question

    Hi to all,

I found these insignia, what is the difference between the two military patterns? I believe the others are sweetheart badges.

If you're looking at the lugged back badges, they are both probably of the world war two period. Please keep in mind that they wore these well after the second world war, into the 50's and sometimes even later than that. It depends on when official stores ran out of badges! As for the minor difference in style, there are several "variations" owing to dies made by different manufacturers. The one also looks like it's been polished more by the wearer, wearing down the detail a bit. As to the pinback badges......look pretty junky to me. I doubt a sweetheart.....I know if I bought that as a gift for a sweetheart she'd probably leave me!

I was using a brass "kings crown" on my beret up until I left the RAF in 2000, not approved and got told to remove it every couple of months, but I kept it on there as did a few others. Just to be contrary

              Thanks for the answer!
About the sweetheartbadges, in Belgium we call them like that but they are IMO Belgian made directly after liberation as these badges were verg popular. They are liberationpins and in Belgium all kinds of these pins were made.... And cheap made... So not really sweetheartbadges indeed.
