More likely to be WWI or interwars. Metal st's were not often worn during WWII, though after the war they were again worn so it might be quite modern. What does the back look like?

In silver, if it's silver it is likely to have been worn on 'patrols', the dark blue uniform used for decades by many regiments as their dress uniform, so could come from a number of periods up to the present.

        Hello Jerry and Peter

Thanks for your help. The reason i asked is that this major crown and silver officer NH plate originally came from a Northumberland Hussar major who was kia in our town in september 1944. He wore this insignia when he got fatally wounded.

I found a similar example and i was wondering if it was a wartime example also. In my eyes they look the same. Sorry for the "poor" picture but it is in a frame behind glass

        Regards

        Erwin
