Home Guard Captain's (10th Norfolk) jacket review

Hi all, wondered if anyone would like to comment on this jacket that I'm currently looking at? I believe the 10th Norfolk battalion was Norwich City.

The battalion badges are in line, rather than the number being (more commonly) underneath. I think that Norfolk had the badges in line, can anyone confirm? All comments appreciated!

    Best regards, Paul

Looks fine, can't comment on the inline patches but I know some HG units did do it. My local HG unit had the numbers above for officers and below for ranks.

            Thanks

Many thanks Lee, I've since discovered that Norfolk did indeed typically have the badges in-line rather than stacked. I found this excellent film about a Norfolk Home Guard unit online:-

            http://www.eafa.org.uk/catalogue/419

At exactly 5 mins in you can see an example of the in-line insignia!

I did buy the jacket (from Crow Valley Militaria), really pleased with it, have been tempted by some Home Guard memorabilia for a while now. I also picked up a book specifically on the Norfolk Home Guard (Standing Up to Hitler: Story of Norfolk's Home Guard and Secret Army, 1940-44):-

            http://www.amazon.co.uk/Standing-Up-.../dp/1853067229

which is next on my reading list.

I can't help thinking that I might be able to ID the owner one day, as the 1940/ Austerity pattern jackets look to have been worn by only about 1 in 10 of the Home Guard from looking at quite a few pictures, together with the unit, rank, lack of medals and the Feb 43 issue stamp on the label. You never know.....

This BD is fine an dandy - no question and come from a good seller.

If you study HG uniform pictures there were many combinations of how insignia designations was appiled , side by side , number on top number on bottom , Ive seen examples where in the case of a single number been worn ABOVE the letters the number has had the sides folded in diagonally to resemble a pyramid . - you got a nice buy
