KOSB badges & Bonnet plus some others

    Good day Gentlemen

I picked these up the is morning. Can anyone shed light on the vintage of the bonnet and the badges? I'm assuming that the KOSB and SEAC titles are WW2 or just post. Where does the tartan flash fit in?

What unit do the Mountain flashes refer to?

the badge has unusual lugs but doesn't look repaired. Is it a fake?

And a couple of shots of the shoulder titles.

What unit wore the Mountain flashes?

        Many thanks

The printed badges are WW2. The bonnett looks old and worn but probably WW2 but there is no way to date it for sure. The tartan was worn on the shoulder above the formation badge in lieu of a shoulder title. I am unfamiliar with the SEAC titles.

The KOSB badge is Good in my opinion. that type of lug is not as common but still real. I feel the badge is at least WW2 or possibly earlier

The Lowland shoulder title was worn by units of the 52nd ( Lowland) Infantry Div., which was trained in mountain warfare, but never used in that capacity.
The division served in NW Europe in 1944-45, and included the 4th & 5th battalions of the KOSB.
I assumme the SEAC tab is for South East Asia Command.

So were the Mountain flashes worn by the 52nd ( Lowland) Infantry Div?

Yes SEAC is South East Asia Command and I'm fairly certain they are late war vintage. I guess a typical example of a soldier collecting bits and pieces which probably accounts for the Royal Scots badges as well.

Thanks for the comments so far

All looks good. Though the Glengarry caps can be hard to date, the type of lugs on the badge are likely to be the type found from late WWII, sometimes seen on Para and other badge. I have a recon corps badge with this type, late war as far as I am aware.

Those type of lugs actually date from ww1 and are a desirable variant. The Glen definetely does date from ww2 or even earlier. The low crown and shape is the key. Once you have seen Glens from this period and compare them to the those that started appear in the 50's, you will begin to recognize the difference.
                    Cheers!

The Glen matches the one in a KOSB article in an old issue of Militaria Magazine

I still don't understand where the Mountain flashes fit in.

                        Thanks

The 52nd ( Lowland) Division wore the Mountain flash, as they were trained for mountain warfare, although not used in that type of environment.
The Lowland title refers to the Lowland Scottish regiments, such as the KOSB, which made up the division.
It's a bit confusing, lowland vs. mountain. Compare it to the 51st ( Highland) Division, made up of Highland Regiments, such as the Black Watch, Gordon Highlanders, Seaforth Highlanders, etc.
