    M1871 Victorian 4th Dragoons Helmet

Here's a nice lid I picked up yesterday from a friend, a few dents but solid with original plume. Should I clean or leave as is?

I lightly clean some items. However cleaning in this case may bring out some of the dents visually.

Thanks guys, not going to clean it. I hate asking this but a Brit collector here is very interested in this lid, what do these bring, PM me if you want, I notmally do not ask these types of questions, I just want to know a ball park if possible. Thanks !!

Regiment is actually the 4th ( Royal Irish) Dragoon GUARDS. The plume should be white for this regiment; black & red is for the 7th DG.

Other ranks helmets like this one are scarce, but not rare. Yours is of course missing the chin chain, and also one rosette it appears, so that definitely affects the price. Also, wrong plume.
I would estimate a value of roughly $ 800-1,000 as it sits. With correct plume & chin chain, as well as an intact interior, $ 1,200-1,300.

My mistake; red & black plume is for the 3rd Dragoon Guards. 7th DG was black & white.
