    Sword need help please

    Hi All,
Need some help on this sword , its all the photos I have , any clues as to what it could be? It has a defense force broad arrow with markings WD below the arrow and TN on one other side.
    cheers

Very interesting sword. I'd try Sword Forum International. I'd bet someone there would know about it.

The hilt is loosely based on the 'Mameluke' style used in general officer's swords [and presentation pieces] by the British and brass hilts usually denote bandsmen or occasionally gunners, neither of whom was likely to actually have to use it in action.

Th 'TN' is interesting too. Perhaps shipped to the South during the great unpleasantness for a Confederate unit band? However, that doesn't answer which British unit would originally have worn it and it doesn't look familiar as British military, so perhaps the sword Forum can get more specific.

Any marks on the blade at all? I'm wondering whether WD might not be a red herring as to its being British because I can't find anything like it under British blades and my feeling is that that marking comes from a later period than the sword. Hmm.

          It

It has to be post 1853, if that narrows down the search ..

My guess...and it's just a guess, is that it will end up having to do with British India.
