    Who is this man?

    Hey you guys,

This is my Great Great uncles best friend when he was in SOE as an Enigineer. My Uncle finished the war as a Cpl although offered promotion several times and refused. His name was Joe Potterton and this is his friend......Ebeer for the first one who names him! More on his life story later

        Tom,

Its old thingy isn't it. I look forward to hearing the rest of the story. Its funny, like your GG Uncle, how many old soldiers I knew, refused several offers of promotion.

Once again great photo, I never realised that old thingy was in the SOE, look forward to the story, is this photo in your collection now?

Sorry that I keep calling him old thingy, you two youngsters will be 40 one day, old age does not come alone.
        Regards
        Si

Anthony Quayle yes was in the SOE. He was the leader of a small detchment, to which I can't remember, that was designed to help the resistance in France. It is not in my collection at the moment. Joe keeps it on his mantle piece but maybe one day I he will pass it on to me. Other than that he has many letters from him informing of how he is doin and talking about french girls and so so. But he has more photos and a photo of himself in his BD which hopefully I will take a picture of in the weekend He has many stories to tell, of himself and of Quayle. It's getting late here so I will hopefully share some with you guys tommorow what he has told me. Watch this space! more to come

                Hi there ,
                many thanks for showing,
Anthony QUALE wrote a book about his war time service in the S.O.E
` A TIME TO SPEAK ` covering his role in Albania etc ,
there is a superb photo of him taken as he is resting half way up a mountain whilst on the run ,
                i think the caption states
" the germans less than half a mile behind us ..hence my worried expression "

he is supposed to have said that he looked more like an SOE agent in the film
`guns of navarone ` far more than he ever did whilst actually serving with them !!!
look forward to more ,thanks ,Michael.

Probably what is little known about Anthony Quale is that he served in the Auxiliary Units prior to joining SOE. From memory there is a good image, with others in the Aux Units, taken at Coleshill House in the excellent book "The Last Ditch" by Lampe. Regards, Clive.

I think there is an article in "After the Battle" magazine about famous filmstarts and their wartime service. One of them has Anthony Quayle's story. Can't remember which issue, I am sure I have it kicking around somewhere, God knows where though

Fantastic photo, thanks for showing it Tom. I loved Quayle in "Ice Cold in Alex" and "The Guns of Navarone". Great actor
