    Wilkinson 1907 Bayonet

Here is a bayonet that I acquired in a local antique shop last January.
It is one of only 2 bayonets that i have and the other is WWII German.

The reason I bought it on impulse was purely for the look and condition.

I don`t know anything about these things but I received some information by email from a fellow collector.

"The markings are fascinating on British bayonets as basically the whole life of the bayonet is there to be deciphered, unlike the German stuff. Your piece I think was manufactured in 1918 , I can see at least 4, maybe 5 inspection marks and a conversion mark ( “88” ). This piece has a lot of history and service time although you would not know it from looking at it. Re-issued in 1925 and again in 1931."

Another collector told me it was an early scabbard with a later type frog.

Anyway the condition is outstanding throughout. The parkerised finish on the blade is all there with just light rub from engaging the retainers. the scabbard leather is perfect as is the hilt & grip plates. The blueing on the hilt is 100% and not a bit of corrosion anywhere.

If anyone can add anything to my knowledge here then please do.
