    Tower Musket-Carbine undated

Seeing another thread on the Tower Musket prompted me to post this example I have owned for some time. I have no idea if it is original or otherwise and would welcome comment and opinion. It is fairly short, about 37" overall, Crown marked and just the Tower stamp and no date. Regards, Clive.

It's a good one and I like it. I've forgotten a lot of what I learnt about these when I was buying mine, but I think that these short versions (usually 3 band) were for artillery or cavalry.

It is a model 1856 British cavalry carbine. If it is real and not a modern replica it will have a series of proof marks on the left side rear of the barrel at the chamber/breech area. Generally when you see a Crown over VR on a TOWER lock it is a British Government contract firearm and will also have a date on the lock and a British viewer stamp on the center of the lock....this one has neither. The rear sight is close to correct, but is not correct.....may have been replaced or may be a facsimile if this is a replica.

Many thanks for the comments and information, much appreciated. I will have to dig it out and check for other markings. Regards, Clive.

Looks like the 1856 cavalry carbine.

To me the wood looks wrong dyed soft wood rather then walnut
And the sight is not what you find on a british military arm
I guess it's an indian copy but it could have age
