Perhaps the name of a ship?

i think its most likely a ship crews shoulder badge for a ship or from what i can see (looks metal) seems to be for a plaq for a veteran. Most likely dating pre ww1 or ww2 however thats my opinion

Unlikely to be a shoulder badge, as naval crews and merchant marine wore mostly cloth - less corrosion than metal - so I would guess it's from a cabin door, or perhaps a plaque of some sort.
