    L1A1/A3 bayonet

Evening all, I was just wondering if anyone has seen this before. It is an L1A1 bayonet that has been re-numbered to an L1A3. I have never seen this on one of these before. Any thoughts? Thanks, Wooly

When the L1A3 came out an instruction was issued to convert the remaining L1A1 bayonets to L1A3 spec with the recessed release button.
The one pictured will be one of these, the L1A1 marking on the grip has been crossed out and the new L1A3 designation and new NSN has been added.

I have one similar, in the case of mine the grips still have the original L1A1 markings on and all they have done is disfigure the final '1' in the L1A1 marking with a centre punch (or something similar) and half heartedly run a very feint electropencil line thru the marking. They haven't added the new L1A3 marking or NSN on the grip. Mine does however have an L1A3 and the 0257 (from the A3 NSN) stamped onto the end of the pommel.
