A wonderful POW group and having the letter from the Royals really adds to it.

Nice to see a hand written letter over the generic mass copied typed letters gives the letter that personal touch

A very nice group. I see he came from a large family, he was one of ten children

Nice 1918 Spring Offensive POW group.

The POW letter from the king isn't a common find. Nice that everything has remained together.

              Thanks for sharing.

Does much in the way of British/Commonwealth medals show up at the SOS and similar? I've never made it to one...

              Cheers,

              Adam

Why would the king send a handwritten letter to a private, when there were hundreds of thousands of liberated prisonners?

Thank you for the comments. I didn't know anything about him I need to research him yet. 10 is a pretty big family ! Apart from a few dealers who specialize in British medals I didn't notice a whole lot there. Mainly ww2 seemed to be the most I saw. The letter is a form letter that was printed up for distribution to the returning POWs. Mike

                    Mike,

Thanks for the info about the shows. Perhaps one day I'll be within striking distance and able to attend.

Quite right about the letter. They were not individually handwritten, of course as there were certainly a large number of POWs by war's end. The King would have handwritten the original and then these were printed off as copies. Still, they are not all that common to find. I've only one in my collection, at the moment, I think, and have maybe had 2-3 others over many years of collecting and trading.

                    Cheers,

                    Adam

FRom the comments, I was getting the impression that it was an original hand written letter, and really could not understand why such a document would exist.
                          Thanks for the explanation.
