Braces buttons on the outside was common in WWI. Not sure when they made the switch over in the British/Can./Aussie armies but it was before WWII. Don't know about European trousers, which I suspect these are - never seen a pocket quite like that on British stuff.

White inserts is a bit odd too - I would have expected a darker colour or even leather if for mounted troops. An odd item.

The Inserts are a light beige, looks whiter as they are in nature.
Maybe this comes from the rubbing off from wearing them.
Also the inner lining, Pockets are made of a beige/khaki fabric.
It looks very similar to the "Breeches No.2 Dress, Mounted Regiments" I have which also have fabric Inserts and not Leather ones.

They are British motorcycle breeches to be worn with the battledress blouse, as there is a first field dressing pocket on the front. Is there a WD stamp on the inside?

Allway's thought it has only a 12 for the size, but under my desk Lamp I saw a very faded WD Mark. Really hard to detect or ID. Looks like

looks like a 4 but maybe an M
            W /I\ D
            225 maybe 227 or similar

Not sure about the Numbers but the top one is Single, the lower a Tripple Digid.
I'll try to take a Pic of it later.
