Cloth that is not really my area...

    Hello,

Is this 4th Corps an original one? What printing technique has been used?

What are these and are they scarce? I couldn't find them anywhere! Could they be Indian related?

The black elephant on red is 4 Corps, part of 14th Army.

Your phoenix jobs are 105th (Madras) Lines of Communication Area.

Wow, thanks for the quick response Leigh!

105th (Madras) Lines of Communication Area - sounds like an obscure unit to me!?

            Are both pukka then?

I'm not too hot on cloth, so I reserve judgement from my lofty position of ignorance on 4 Corps & come down off the fence to go thumbs up on 105 LoC.

I've never seen 105 LoC before, I've got a few of the Indian LoC's, such as a printed 101st (Bihar & Orissa) LoC red unicorn on yellow circle & three hand embroidered 404th (East Bengal) LoC black detailed white paddy bird on red square, with their matching hand embroidered 14th Army shields (one in silver bullion), that's probably about it.

I suspect that they're not rocking horse manure but they're not exactly thick on the ground. Just don't know much about them I'm afraid.

Any signs of stitching for hook & eye or press stud fittings on the back of the 105th badges? - backed as they are & being hot climate jobs they'd be detachable for freequent laundering etc of uniform Id've thought.

                Jack,

I'd have to give you a on the 105 LoC. I don't have one in my collection yet (hint, hint). From the picture I'd say the other is not right, I'd expect to see the bleed-through of the design be black if the WW2 typographic process was used.

                  HIYA ,
yep the L.O.C badges are very nice and appear `bang on `
bit doubtful about the first one , the printing as Garth says is just not quite right ,it maybe coz it was indian manufactured ?? these can look a bit `iffy ` but are ofen dead right / the printed cloth signs are now being faked, some up to a very high standard , dont know if you can remember the uk HOME GUARD formation signs worn by the CORNWALL ( UK ) UNITS they have such designs as the lizard ( black on green ) the light house ( black on red ) these were copied in the same printed style ,
your best bet is at the next arms fair is pick up a cheap printed formation sign such as the `T.T ` ( RED ON BLACK ) tyne tees sign and keep in inyour wallet , this example is one of the best for an example of the printed style ,
                  regards ,Michael.

                    Thanks for your replies

Leigh, I don't think these ones have ever had anything to make them removable from a uniform. To be honest, I don't think they have ever been worn or even issued!

Garth and Michael, thank you very much for your thumbs up and analysis

                    Cheers, from Jack.
PS Michael, find me a TT patch and you can have a drink on me at the next Pudsey
