    British officer 1944 web rig

    Hello to all

    - Question concerning Dday and Market garden operations -

Does officers took the usual pistol holster + pouches + brace attachement web rig

... or did they take the troopers rig (the long pair of standart ammo pouches + small pack) for maximum ammo load ?

    Thanks

From reading Farley Mowat's book "No Birds Sang" he makes references to him having ammo pouches with spare mags for the Bren Guns. He was a second Lt so I would assume it also applied for Dday and other European operations. He also wore a Smith & Wesson 38caliber pistol that he swapped with an American soldier for an M1 carbine after the landing on Sicily

Ive seen officers armed with Stens, who on the left side, had the universal ammo pouch, and on the right side, had a revolver holster + ammo pouch. Id just try and find period photographs and decide for yourself.
