On first sight you'd say, no way , no way is that rare, an Edward VII Army LS&GC to a Battery Serjt-Major. Well guys, I'll let you into a secret. I was once "a bit of an anorak" for the Army LS&GC Ed.VII bust and I collected every Army Order in which there were lists of recipients, about 18,000 medals in total for your information a 3" wad of copies. I had at least one medal to most regiments, either a single or in a group.
What I found amongst those to Gunners was amazing,
9% were named to members of the Royal Horse Artillery
34% were named to members of the Royal Field Artillery
53% were named to the Royal Garrison Artilery
2.5% were named to HK & Singapore Artillery/Malta Art. etc
1.4% were named to simply R.A.
I cant tell you why but I can tell you they'ze RARE
Here is one of them, awarded to 41621 B.S.M. George Henry Harrison R.A. He was from the village of Kirk Ireton north of Derby and enlisted aged 20 in 1884. He was with the Depot/RHA quite quickly and then "A" Brigade from 1884/89 in India, he was promoted Bombardier in 1890, Corporal in 1891, Sergeant in 1892 still with RHA Depot, back in India 1893/97, promoted BSM in 1898 and from 1901 served out his time with Permanent Staff, 1st Newcastle on Tyne (Vols) RGA. And upon retirement due to being medically unfit his only medal was his LS&GC awarded in 1902. He died 23 Jan 1948 at Clay Cross aged 84 of heart failure.
