    RN Shirt Question

    Hi Guy's. What does the AWD in "****r, Mans, AWD Lightweight, RN, FR" means. ISO say's only, "Shirt, Field" when I check the NSN 8415-99-354-0225.

    Try www.rumration.co.uk , it id a Royal Navy informal forum, they may be able to help.

    We used to have these issued to the Army, they were green as known as 'Norwegian Army Shirts; or 'Norgies'. The AWD may stand for 'Anti Warfare ...?'

      AWD is action working dress. Previously No 8 now No 4 Dress. Never seen or heard of anything remotely like this having been issued in the RN. Does resemble the Norgies.

      The issue date of 2010 is a bit modern for me, I'll ask at work tomorrow perhaps an op to date Loggie will have the answer.

      Current RN Dress Regs BR is available online if you can find it, can't remember the BR No offhand which would be a help in searching.

        Jim,
        thanks for this so far. I have several Parts of the BR3, but could't find it there, even with the new Info.

          With the AWD Search in words I found an old RN Website, but with Info no longer available. It say's that the AWD is the No.5 and No 4 is the IAWD, so Improved Action working Dress.

            No mention here, still trying at work.

            A google search for Royal Navy norgie shirt seems to suggest they do exist.

              Found this;

              d.
              Action Working Dress (Number 4). Functional, protective working dress worn at sea, in naval bases and in air stations. Combat clothing is the Royal Marines equivalent.
              If you search for Shirt, Cold Weather, Royal Navy you find a nice blue Norgie type shirt.
