    Help ID WWII Surgical Bag

Just bought this from a friend who thinks it might be from New Zealand. Mixed period contents range from US Carlisle to various British and Australian bandages and straight razors. Any thoughts as to which commonwealth country?

    Hi,

    Any markings/stamps underneath the flaps?

Also try look at the back of the studs(both male and female), might able to find the maker mark.

    Regards,
    Taka

On the female studs I can sort of make out the name "Newey" as well as a patent number.

Newey and Eyre, Birmingham UK operates "By appointment to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II". It began business in 1926. Examples of early hooks and eyes, apparently their main staple for years, are available on ebay and on display at the Imperial War Museum - "War Time Production" it says on the packet. They are now the UKs largest supplier of electrical equipment!

So, could be NZ with the snaps imported or UK manufacture. Sorry that's not a huge help!

Thank you for the interesting info Peter!

Feels like the pack was made by British but was issued or used by NZ military.

I suspect you're right. Lots and lots of stuff was made in the UK and shipped out to the old Empire / new Commonwealth before, during and after both World Wars. Mind, it could be that the NZ authorities decided to import the snaps and sew up the bags there, as that kind of specialist product may not have been made in NZ. I still use sewing needles made in Germany and pins made in Holland, and its not as if Canada couldn't make those if it chose! A nice little puzzle.
