Picked this up at a yard sale. it is waaay out of my range of focus, and I'm hoping one of you fellows has experience with type of item. Is it very desirable? Many thanks in advance.

There's many prize medals in circulation - some better than others. This is a particularly fine example of the medallist's craft - from an artistic point of view (an aspect that is sometimes overlooked). Anyhow, the recipient was the eldest son of Alfred James Bussey of Wareham, Dorset. He had nine brats, and Fred was one of 'em. Bit of a musical whiz too by the looks of it (he'd have been 21 when he won this). No mean feat getting in to the RAM. A very pretty medal indeed - even if it isn't military oriented.

Thank you very much for the background info and overview, Tony.
It is hallmarked on the obverse (left of bust) to " H. Wyon F. 1822."
