It is my very sad job to report to the forum, that WW2 British Military Medals are now being faked.<O
<O
The term 'fake' is usually used to describe an item of militaria that purports to be something, that it is not. These fakes certainly qualify. Is there a connection with the source of the fake WW1 MM's?
<O
One again these medals appear to be crisp die struck, with excellent, clean, straight edge rims. The give away; the naming on the rims which is 'engraved'. The worry thing is the naming consists of characters which are an almost approximation of the correct impressed counterpart.
<O</O<O
If you have failing eye sight or get carried away with research you could land yourself a good few thousand pounds down if you cannot identify an engraved medal.
<O
Examples that I have recorded so far, are to recipients with fantastical stories.
What honestly surprises me is that it just seems to be me, on my own, mentioning this? Where are the articles in the medal publications, why no warnings on dealers web sites? This is disappointing and a cynical person may assume that many prefer to turn the blind eye IMO.
