Medal Dilema

Hi All,

I have got myself thoroughly confused during the last few days. From my Granfathers medal ribbon it would appear that he won the Africa Star/1939-45 Star/Defence Medal/War Medal/Africa Service Medal. Yet upon receiving his secord record I found that only the Defence medal/War Medal and Africa Service Medal were recorded.

My question is why were the other 2 not recorded? Could it be a clerical error? Is there anyway to find out for sure what happened? Would any infor be in the despatch identified in the records?

from the description it looks as if your Grandfather was a South African soldier or SAAF airman, so his service papers will be available from the SADF (Personal Bag) - Jo'burg, full of wonderful detail and cast iron confirmation on medal entitlement with the dates of foreign service & countries, in support of that.
