    Headdress ID

    Hi all!

Although not British per se, the Greek Sacred Band Sergeant of the photo is -as expected- dressed in British/Commonwealth BD. What appears a bit odd to me is his headdress. I can see seams around the top and just on the left of the badge, so it's not a beret, on the other hand there's the leather headband, so it's not a GS cap...

So, my question is, is it a British/Commonwealth headdress piece or not? Maybe some privately tailored/purchased piece? And if yes, anything similar worn by the British in Africa/Middle East?

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards,
    Giorgos

Australian pattern beret is the closest I can find.

Hi Jerry! Thanks for your reply and the link!

Actually I saw a South African beret today, which had all these beret and GS cap characteristics. I wonder, are these private purchase pieces or some other pattern?

        Best regards,
        Giorgos

About 15 Years ago I got loads of UK WWII GS Caps, some with added Leather Band, many not, but mostly with Greek Names written in.

Thanks for your reply Nico! There's not much info about these and it looks like they were quite favorite pieces back then!

            Best regards,
            Giorgos
