South African shell

Hi . I would like to show you this south african shell. It was brought back from a travel in Libya 20 years ago. Opinions welcome !

Curious what the three holes are for? Maybe for a cloth neck cover to shield the back of the neck from the sun?

That' s right, but I couldn't find any photo that has cloth on.

I would want to see one with an original cloth on it.

3 holes are standard for SA WWII helmets and were intended for a neck guard/curtain, i do not think there is any evidence though of that ever being used,

Thats an interesting South African MkII,Christophe.
The chinstrap lugs are what is known as, Chinstrap securing lug MKII-they were produced in early 1938.There maybe a date under the Split Pins.South African MkII shells are never marked.
The remnants of the art work is great too,i think i can make out a cannon under the crossed flags which could indicate Artillery.
As for the pictures of a South African MkII with a neck cloth,good luck, ive been looking for one for years and havnt come across one yet,i believe they were never issued by the Military.
