Lodge 32 went defunct in the 1960s. An organization with some million plus members in North America at one time. Now you can count the number of lodges in Quebec (anyway) with one hand.
One of the little studied social changes that WWII brought about was the demise of such (dare I say) bigoted fraternal orders in Canada.
Seems 6+ years of fighting the common cause sort of wiped out the 'Us vs Them' attitude of the Orange Order in Canada at that time.
Yes, the LOL was, to quote a friend of mine "a nasty bunch of gits dedicated to making sure that Irish Catholics didn't get good jobs [here in Canada]. Now, thankfully, almost defunct as byterock suggests but for over a century a major and malign influence in small town Canada. An unfortunate example of people bringing their quarrels over from 'the ould country' when the came!
