I agree 'reinforcement' though I cannot see such a unit on list of units in ETO I have handy

    I do see

    No. 1~3 Base Reinforcement Group:

perhaps it was under one of those or short lived early on in the war.

I know that the first 'First Nation' Canadian officer 'David Greyeyes' served in a MG RU.

The organization and designation of the Canadian base / reinforcement system overseas was changed during the war. One designation was "xxx RU" (eg. Canadian Armoured Corps Reinforcement Unit). In 1944 the system was significantly re-organized and the MG RU was incorporated into one of infantry reinforcement units.
A good source for information about the reinforcement system is C.P. Stacey's Six Years of War and The Victory Campaign.
