That's a distinct possibility, Nico. I would expect more marking on both the kit and the cover if it was issued to Cdn. military types. Anyway, they were using standard British pattern mess kits in WWI.

They still did in the 1980's. I bought some of them when I was in Toronto together with the matching OD rubberized Pouches.

That was my first guess too. I missed the Broad Arrow and the other Typical Markings.
