    Great War death plaque

    Hello,

    One of my memorial plaques has a couple of stamps on the front. One of them is E. C ? P by the lions front right leg and the other is the number 21 next to his back left leg.

    Does anyone know what they mean, something to do with the person who designed them or the makers stamp? I only know the W for Woolwich which is found on the back.

    Thanks

    Tony

    As ever, the web has the answer. I don't want to look too knowledgable after all!

      Thanks Tony,

      I think in future I'll just ask for suggestions on words for the search engine.

        Mr carters design of the dead mans penny was one of 800 submitted.

        The number "21" is the number of the workman who put the name on, the highest number known is "90".

        I read it in a book a while back;
        "The Collectors & Researchers Guide To The Great War", by Howard Williamson, published last year, I think it was a private publication with "Chameleon".
        Two volumes, very, very useful, just a bit of a bugger to search through.

          Cheers Leigh,

          I'll check that book out, Christmas isn't too far away is it.
