Newfoundland Regiment related Officers Tunic to Mr. Haddow

Does anyone have more info on the provenance of this tunic? It is not named but I would love to know more?

The info. is contained here: http://www.canadiangreatwarproject.c....asp?Id=139332

A very nice tunic. I know that's not provenance per se, but at least some basic info.

        .

        Thanks mate,

Have you got any info on if this is actually Haddows Tunic?... as it is not named for example the provenance would be most important. I have seen the original owner (s) posting this online before but never comments on the source.

        Kind Regards,

        Pete

          Here's the first gazette entry. Can't locate the January 1, 1916 but the New Year's Honours List would have been a likely time for him to have received his CMG;

          London Gazette, 11 July, 1916
          NEWFOUNDLAND.
          1st Newfoundland Regiment.
Major Arthur L. Hadow (The Norfolk
          Regiment) to be temporary Lieutenant-
          Colonel whilst commanding a Battalion.
          Dated 6th December, 1915.

No, I know nothing of the provenance. I assumed it must be named from the title alone. Sorry

Sounds as if you know something already. Who was the original owner - after Hadow?

I know the seller and he bought/traded it from someone else who started a link on the Great war forum.

I think the attribution was based on the combination of buttons and medal ribbons and it is not named as such.

                  .

Well, again a common occurrence....Tunic, premier Regiment, no provenance stated, no way without further info to prove it. We been down this road before! Nice looking outfit though!

                  Regards,

"We been down this road before!" Yep! 'Buy the item, not the story.' Didn't used to be a problem as, after all, 'Who'd fake a tunic?'. Now, ... ?!?

If I were still collecting uniforms, I'd buy it for the jodhpurs and fine look, for the component value [ie; WWI officers tunic + jodhpurs + medal bar, history unknown].

                    My shilling's worth.

It is still a nice group that's for sure!
