WW1 Repro British Army iconic tank crewman's mask. A rare opportunity to obtain a "superb hand made museum quality replica item, painstakingly researched and made by a member of a leading Great War Living History organisation. These items are so accurate that he has already sold a few to museums, including a key one in this field. The original mask was introduced in 1916 and was used to protect crewmen from the "splash" of tiny flakes of metal inside the tank caused when bullets hit the outside of the armour plate. Original examples are VERY rare. This is constructed from steel covered with leather, with slatted metal eye pieces, chain mail curtain to protect the lower face and cotton tapes to tie the mask in place. This one is new and unused. It is also likely to be the last available for a few months as the maker produces these in his spare time and is currently working on two orders for Tank Helmets. Please note that the leather cover is not quite aligned around one of the eyes. However, originals have been seen like this and it is an authentic look.
