Hi Gary,

I havent seen another basic pouch with a suspension like yours.
The 'made in England' stamp on the side suggests that it is an export item,
perhaps it was wartime surplus, modified for export, but when and to whom is the question,

It probably once had a waist belt attached at the bottom, similar to the example on the right.

What about something adapted post-war by one of the European nations who used British kit?

I have seen several weird and wonderful webbing items used by Belgium, Holland, Denmark etc. that were either adapted from British webbing or made in a similar style but with modifications. Some of these countries also used some US inspired kit at various times - maybe this was a pouch caught between these two influences?
