Never seen a slider like that it must be ultra-modern i.e. QRL. Is it Staybrite? Can't really tell from the foto. If so it would be issued at the training depot and discarded on joining the Regt and a be replaced with a metal one.

It's what they call Brass, Nickel Silver as described in the 17/21st Listning for Officers, but it's the Slider what really confuses me. Did the got them cheaper from a Canadian Maker? "War Aid"?

I have a 17th/21st Lancers officer dress cap, and the badge has two lugs, rather than a slider. All of my British Cavalry officer caps' badges ( I have 14) use lugs ,rather than sliders.

Robert, NEVER refer to this 17/21/QRL item as a "badge". It is a "motto" and is the one sure way you can tell a newby collector from serious one. By the way, this is the only unit in the British Army where "motto" applies.

Yes, you are correct, it is a "motto". I simply forgot; age is catching up with me!
I am not a new collector; I picked up my first British cap ( Queen's Own Hussars officer) at Herbert Johnson's store in London in 1976, and my second cap, a Colstream Guards sergeant's cap from an nco at the Guards Museum the same trip.
After owning many British caps over the years, I sold many, and have limited my collecting to cavalry and Guards officer caps.
