I'm using this Door for Years now, but yesterday it was closed and I had to wait and realized the Name Carvings in the Wall. One side had a fire, so they're black, one was under a roof, so realtively safe.

      Cool.

Long standing tradition of CW forces to leave a little mark where ever they go.

You will find little gems like these from the Falklands, Fort Prince of Wales, to the Khyber pass.

      Thanks for sharing

Yes, their version of "Kilroy was here.", the famous WWII US 'tag'. I suspect the Romans did it on Hadrian's Wall, the pyramids and bits of the Acropolis.

I have found a few things like this before, once in a place called Whittlesy in cambridgeshire, all the names and such were dated with war time dates and second time in Moyland wood near Cleve, Germany, the earliest date carved into a tree I saw was 1880 or around then, then further along the path there was German engravings from 43-44 then Canadian/British carvings from 45, I have been wanting to get back one day to take some pictures, or if anyone is in the area there, its worth checking out
