Here's a grouping I obtained many years ago.
In the group is James Whittle's Regular Army, Certificate of Service.
Whittle enlisted in the Grenadier Guards in Oct. 1936 at Wictan. He served for 10 years and was the personal "servant" of Lt. General Sir Miles Dempsey for three years. Whittle was transferred to the Army Reserves in April 1946. Served with Colours for 9 years 175 days.
Whittle was with the BEF in France from Sept. 1939 till May 1940. The Gruards' were charged with defences of the perimeter around Dunkirk.
Whittle then was tranferred to South Africa for two months, before returning to the fight in North Africa an italy. He came back home for three months.
On the 15th of June 1944, Whittle returned to France and North West Europe, serving till June 1945.
He returned home again for a short time....45 days! Then went to the South East Asia Command. With service there for 145 days until returning home for the last time in Jan. 1946.
In this group were Whittle's set of 14th Army Patches, 13th Corps patches, 2nd Army patches, and printed set of Allied land Forces South East Asia patches. Along with one Grenadier Guard sleeve insignia.
Also in the book is a hand written and signed "testimonial" from Lt. Gen. Dempsey.
Whittle received the following awards.
1939-45 Star
Africa Star (with clasp?)
Italy Star
France and Germany Star
War medal 1939-45
Enjoy the photos.
Cheers,
Howard
