    RFC Pilot Wing

I'll start by apologizing for the empty thread earlier. For some reason my photos would "grow" while they were in my files and were too big for the forum, so with some help from another forum member, they are down to regulation size.
One of the areas that I like to collect is WWII RAF wings and insignia. In collecting RAF items, I never in a million years thought that I would ever come across a WWI RFC Pilot's wing that I would be able to afford.
Well, it has happened and I wanted to share it with you.

Nice piece Allan. I don't know much about these, but I noticed it looks a bit different from my Great-Grandfathers.

I never knew they were worth so much either, until I brought my whole Great-Grandfathers grouping (which includes many documents, medals, officers sword, pins, etc.) to the recent show here in Toronto and someone offered me 7k in cash for it. Of course, I didn't sell it, it is family stuff!

If you are interested, I can post some images of the grouping sometime next week.

Here is an image of it: <img src="http://members.rogers.com/epilogue/IMG_2291s.JPG">

        Another Rfc Relic:

For some time, I have been collecting military watches and clocks, including this MK V, RFC, cockpit watch vintage 1916. My research indicates that if an RFC pilot survived a crash he was accountable to remove the watch and return it to stores or face a court of inquiry!

            Roy,
Thanks for the thumbs up. This one came from a dear friend of mine who told me that it has been used in a book, but don't remember if it was Warren Carroll's or another. I am happy with it. I do have to admit that I would LOVE to have a droop winged example like the one Chris Stewart posted, but the circumstances (and wallet stuffing) would have to be right for me to find one.
This is only the first RFC Pilot's wing that I have ever had an opportunity to own.

              Hi,

Allan. Very nice example you have there. I'd be proud to own it. Is some of the paper backing still remaining on the wing?

Chris. Beautiful RFC wing. I always refer to this as the "classic type". My favourite type I think.

Sadly I had to sell my RFC wing that belonged to a pilot who was KIA in France in 1916. I regret it to this day But I needed some cash for Airborne gear so it had to go, I want to get another one though, one day!!!! I still have all the photos and info, so I might do a thread soon.

              Thanks from Jack.

Sometime this week I'll post my grouping of the Great Grandfather's, which includes RFC, Royal Engineers etc.

The author you mentioned, Warren Carroll, saw my stuff at the show and I had requested that I send him some scans of what he thought were some rare documents. So you may see my name in his next publication
