    help with info search

    Hello

bought a victory medal a while ago and just recently decided to start looking for info on the soldier who this medal belonged to.

this is what the medal has inscribed on it :

    SS - 2579 PTE. J. SMITH. A.S.C.

pretty well all I've figured out is that he was a
    Army Service Corps Supply Specialist.

any help or pointers as to how to find more information would be greatly appreciated

    thank you
