I have one exactly like this, except it was cut down and made into a hunting knife post-war. I was told it was a Canadian/British bayonet, and was told it was worth about 30 Canadian in its present state.

I imagine yours would be worth a bit more, especially if you have the frog/sheath.

That's a second type, Pattern 1888 Mk1. /|\ over WD is War Department, the famous 'crows foot' property mark, the next mark is a view mark for Wilkinson. The X signifies that it has passed the 'bend test'. The 1897 is probably a weapon number as these were issued matched to a rifle.
