Unusual RE cap badge

Hi,

Anyone know what unit this cap badge belonged to? It appears to be a standard George VIth cap badge but with the addition of a silver M which appears to have been soldered on.

Any help appreciated.

R.E Militia, there were ERVII & GRV versions, Fortress Engineers in Malta wore this badge too, I think only this GRVI version.
