Painted Pith Helmet

Recent flea market pick up. I have a few 'Pith Helmets' in my collection but I have not seen one that has had it's top partly painted in a 'battleship grey' nor can I see any reason for doing so. The helmet appears to be early, possibly pre WWII and in Excellent condition. The body also has that nice early 'Tea' coloured' patina. Military made?

Unusual but very nice. Never seen one painted like this before. Private purchase I think but it could well have been used by the military, certainly circa WWII manufactured, 1930's or 1940's.
