New Zealand War Service Medal 1939-45

I don't think this particular issue has had an airing on this forum yet, but they are reasonably common and they have been mentioned on one or two other threads. The medal is distinctive in design and rather attractive too. They are a pleasant departure from the more unimaginative WWII issues such as the Stars, and it's a shame that they weren't issued with clasps instead of Stars for those who qualified.

They were awarded to all NZ personnel who completed 1 months' full-time, or 6 months' part-time service between September 1939 & September 1945. The medal was issued un-named, although they can sometimes be encountered privately engraved.

Hi Tony, the design is an attractive one with the fern leaves forming the suspension bar. What kind of price do these command? I cannot actually recall ever seeing one for sale here in the UK?

    Cheers, Ade.

      Ade,

I think you'll find these on dealer lists for about 10-15 quid!

      Cheers,

      Adam
