British Flag and connected penant. Navy ??

These two pieces came from a garage sale here in Illinois 10 years or so ago. I had stored them away and got them out today to photograph. Large flag measures approx 34" x 70" and the penant approx 22" x 46" The only markings are on the penant and that is REP. 3 6. They are connected with brass fittings and rope. Can anyone help me identify what these are. Many thanks.

The large one is the White Ensign flown by all Royal Navy ships and the pennant is the signal flag for "3rd".

Has the White Ensign a sewn or printed Union Jack?

Signal pennant is 3rd Subsitute and represents a repeat of the 3rd letter of a signal without the need for an additional set of flags.

It would not be flown below the White Ensign as it would be meaningless, they're just joined for convenience.

Have a closer look at the markings as REP 3 6 seems strange I would imagine it means something like "Repeat 3" but the 6 doesn't.

Pity we didn't have an old "Bunting Tosser" on the forum, he'd know in a flash.

              Maybe it's a Size 6 Flag?
I know they come in different sizes depending on the Ship's Size.
As it's nearly 1.2 meters long with 46 Inches, it's a real large one. East German ones have about half size and from my Dad's Ship I have one with about 30cm long.
