Researching a soldier what's the best way?

    Hello,

I was wondering what the best way of researching the history of a soldier was without his number?

I have a name, rank and regiment and where he served.

    Major C. Burdon-Taylor, 1/DLI Cyprus.

Is this enough info to be able to do a search for his history?

I did a search online and this popped up,https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/29P2-TZM/p1
But how do I know for sure that it's the man I'm searching for?

    All help gratefully accepted!

    Many thanks,
    Andy

I'd recommend starting your search using the online london gazette archives you'll get his service number (72413) along with a record of promotions and postings. If you can prove he's been deceased for 25+ years you can even get his full service file.

    Cheers
    Chris

      Thanks for that Chris.
Managed to find a couple of promotions, a medal award and possibly a name change, although this needs further investigation!

      Regards,
      Andy
