The Most Noble of the Garter

A privately made mid to late 19th Century Collar Badge or Great George, in silver gilt and enamels, of European manufacture (most likely Austrian), the modeling and enamels of generally very fine quality, horse’s tail and base stamped with “A” (most likely Viennese silver hallmark), along with maker’s stamp (obscured, possibly “PL” or “FL” ?), height 94 mm (to top of suspension loop), weighs approximately 112 grams, considerable evidence of wear, enamel chipped or flaked in places, and with some minor enamel restoration, in very fine condition overall.
