    British general's shoulder straps query

Gentlemen, I have with me here a pair of shoulder straps for the rank of General, but I am not sure which era this dates from, or for which type of uniform it is for.

Could anyone help me out on this please?

    Thanks!

Mess Dress, pre 1955, although some officers continued to wear the old "King's Crown" for some time.

Thank you Marc. Would this Mess Dress set of straps be for any regiment in particular, or was it a standard style across the board?

Pre 1953. Generals do not serve, as such, in regiments they are on the General Staff. They are often given honorary positions as Colonel-in- Chief of various regiments, however.

          Thank you, Dave.

Would these straps be worn with buttons? I can't seem to find any button holes on the straps.

Buttons worn on everday dress but I don't think on Mess Dress which has a stand-up collar.
