    1914-15 Star Question

Hi Guys, here I have a Star to the 10th CEF that I wonder about. My question is about the Star named to Hall. The group is plated, as some of them did, and it all is named fine as far as i see but the Star seems if i am correct to be Bronzed as in the same as Baby Shoes come out like? This seems to take the features down a bit. Anybody seen a Bronzed star before?

    Regards,

    Pete

I'm not sure why anyone would bronze a medal which is already made of bronze, but the details do seem a bit fuzzy on the one you show. Any chance its a cast copy of an original?

            .

I'm Not sure mate does it look like it? I am new at this and any help will be appreciated! I can post more photos if required! The Star in question is on the left. The other two are other 10th CEF Stars and the bottom two are the same as the first photo on the center and right. If you look at the Slash on the star is question its angle seems different. 10/ . I know there were many, like over 15 manufacturers so I read but should it be so different?

I have seen this kind of pitting before on Canadian medals. I have a British War Medal that has exactly the same kind of motling. A cast copy is likely to show mould lines and no shear marks on the edge.

The grouping your showing has been recently mounted so the star could of been anywhere. In a fire, a damp out house or perhaps one of the medals previous owners used an acid to remove plating?

I dont think its anything to worry about as long as the impression style conforms to known period Canadian styles I am sure its fine.

                  ,,,

Is there anything wrong with the slash compared to the other ones that any of you guys have seen? This sash seems a bit steeper?

Definitely a weird texture to it ... however, what makes it ok in my books is the naming. It's a match to your other one. To me that's the clincher.

Mate how about the Slash though, the other ones have a lower slash and the start in question has a Steep slash?

                        Hi There
one good way to work out if its a cast copy or not is to weigh it and compare weights with the other stars you have weights should be about .5grams tolarance eather way if its a lot less then its most likely a cast copy i would be a bit concerned about the name and numbers when compared to your others steve

These were stamped letter by letter, symbol by symbol. There will obviously be slight differences in alignment from medal to medal.
