    Early British Military Haversack ?

Picked up this bag today at the local carboot, I'm not sure that it is military issue, it has canvas front and back, with leather sides/bottom, numbers stamped under the cover, anyone got any ideas ?

I think that it is an 1871 Pattern Valise.

This is way out of my normal safety zone but looking in my copy of the Pierre Turner book on British army accoutrements I would guess it is the valise from the 1870 equipment set.

The shape of the front flap is a little different but all of the basic details look the same. The top stamp inside the flap seems to read 1871 which also makes sense. If this is correct then you have picked yourself up a nice little piece of 19th Century British history there. Very nice!

Gentlemen, thankyou for your replies, it does seem to be from this issue of kit, I can't make any sense of the other numbers though.
          Regards
