British OG Uniforms - Where to Find One?

As I now live in the 'burbs instead of the big city I have room for uniforms and I was trying to get various British uniforms from different eras.

I've found that it is easier to find a WWI pattern (1902-1907) than it is to find the 1960's OG uniforms, which were based on the American patterns of the era.

So I'm wondering, did these all just get trashed and destroyed? I know the Pattern 58 web gear is suprisingly hard to find. Any ideas on where to find an original British OG uniform from the 1960s?

As they used them as Work dress after their "Real" life, most of the Stuff was used until exausted. I got some Jackets to complete a Display for a Museum and it's really hard to find good ones. 58 Webbing was around some Years ago very cheap, but now it's like gold dust. Surely I can speak only for Germany, but in the moment, it's easier to find ww2 Gear.

I see now it is more common on eBay.co.uk, but eBay.com it is mostly replica 58 pattern. For a few months I rarely saw it.

In America I never see it. This is just stuff that apparently never made it over here!

Full sets of 58 webbing and belt order kit can be had for peanuts over here, im sure someone will be willing to assist in sourcing a set or parts thereof for you.

As for the OGs we where still in Battledress and denims at the time with the addition of post war pattens of jungle greens of some description. Ill keep an i eye out and see if i can dig anything up for you.


It would be nice to see some more 47-to 70s era kit on here.

Thank you to everyone for the help. As I might have mentioned I have American uniforms from WWI to the modern day (still filling out WWII obviously).

I'd like to do the same with the British. It is just so strange that WWI uniforms are not hard to find, but the 1950-1970 stuff is just nowhere!

I know the feeling, i believe one of the main reasons is the fact dealers had tons of the stuff and very few people collected it and that remains so in my eyes. Thus the dealers often skipped a lot of it, sad but true i have seen it with my own eyes.

The early British DPM is becoming very collectable too at the moment but still not as much of it about maybe we should have a section on the forum dedicated to early and mid post war British uniforms.

Until a few years ago (1992) old uniforms were used as rags, many an old badge has been found in the rag bag. Some times the items were not completly cut up and we would take them to the Clothing Q stores for exchange, I suppose some items may have gone round the system sveral times.

One of the hardest DPM items to get is the 1960 pattern Smock, Combat, DPM.

I'm very in post war greens used by the british army during its post war operations.
I can say that the "Pattern 46" bush jackets are really hard to find, but Pattern 50 are less scarce. Without big effort you could find one in good condition. Have in mind that only the jackets are made in cellular twill, trousers are in serge. Till the mid 50's, you could find Indian pattern (P37 style). P50 with large map pocket on the side of the left leg were issued in 1951 in Korea.
Last but not the least, P44 sets were still in use in Malaya circa 1955, like BJ P50 during the Indonesian confrontation...
